UPDATE...
Hey CMS Nation, we’ve been busy….....the motorsport industry and fans across North America have been buzzing with questions like, “what’s going on with CMS?”.......”are we still on?"............”when do we start racing?”
ANSWER: We have been patiently waiting for the Ontario Municipal Board to issue a date for a pre-hearing conference. The long awaited OMB pre-hearing to review the remaining appeals against the CMS development has been scheduled for January 17, 2012 at 11am in Town of Fort Erie council chambers. It’s a public meeting and we hope you can make it out in support of the Canadian Motor Speedway. Once the OMB process is cleared, we’ll be ready to ramp up and gain a lot of lost development time. With initial construction planned in late Spring 2012, CMS anticipates its grand opening by mid 2013.
We’d like to thank the CMS Nation for the thousands of emails, letters and calls of support and we encourage all of you to keep it coming.

CMS MYTH BUSTERS
At CMS we believe it is very important for the public to receive correct information about the development and its impact on local communities. Here are a few mis-informed views about the speedway and the corresponding facts:
CMS is killing wetlands and natural vegetation; FALSE - The entire CMS layout has been oriented to avoid all environmentally designated areas while incorporating provincially mandated setbacks as part of the design of all structures on site.
CMS will be too noisy; FALSE – Our noise mitigation plan meets Ministry Of Environment noise standards for all activities approved for the site. CMS has accounted for 3 levels of noise management including 26m high grandstands, 9m noise berms surrounding the entire site, and 10m high billboard systems on top of the berms. Ongoing sound monitoring apparatus will be a permanent part of the CMS development to ensure we continue to regulate all sound levels emanating from CMS…..it’s in our rezoning bylaw.
CMS will cause traffic jams; FALSE - CMS has engaged some of the best traffic consultants in North America possessing experience with major successful speedways and sports venues in Canada and the US. Our traffic management master plan incorporates elements like border control, timed entry, fan shuttles, and local law enforcement marshaling just to name a few. A great fan experience starts and ends with a great traffic management plan. No guess work involved here.

CMS Nation congratulates Jeff Gordon for being named NASCAR Illustrated's 2011 Person of the Year
"Four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon has been named the 2011 NASCAR Illustrated Person of the Year.
Gordon is the first three-time recipient of the award, but this marks the first time he is the sole recipient. Gordon and Darrell Waltrip were named co-persons of the year in 1997. Gordon also shared the title when Hendrick Motorsports was named Persons of the Year in 2004.
"We are thrilled to name Jeff Gordon the 2011 NASCAR Illustrated Person of the Year," said Jay Pfeifer, Editor of NASCAR Illustrated. "In addition to scoring his 85th win, third-most in NASCAR history, he took his philanthropy to a new level. By expanding his fight against pediatric cancer to Africa, Gordon showed that compassion can extend across borders and around the world. We salute Jeff for his incredible achievements."
Gordon has made three trips to Victory Lane with his No. 24 team during the 2011 season and on the third and final off-week of the 38 weekend NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule, a trip around the world to the Democratic Republic of the Congo with the Clinton Global Initiative, a special program created by former President Bill Clinton to improve the lives of 43 million internally displaced persons and refugees around the world.
In May, the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation announced their new initiative to bring accessible cancer treatment to children of Rwanda and has committed to raising $ 1.5 million over the course of three years in order to do so.
Gordon has also contributed to feeding millions of America's elderly through sponsor AARP and their Drive to End Hunger program, which adorned the hood of the No. 24 Chevrolet for the first time this year. Over $ 12 million in donations and more than 3.7 million meals have been provided to senior citizens struggling with hunger issues in America through the Drive to End Hunger program.
"It's very rewarding to be named the 2011 Person of the Year, and I am just so thankful for all the opportunities I have been given," said Gordon. "The Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation has been able to accomplish a lot since its inception in 1999 in the battle against pediatric cancer, but that battle continues nationally and globally.
